Do you love nature, tranquillity and space? Then Fuerteventura is for you. The island is really beautiful. Our guests are always very surprised when they get to know the island better.
Do you want to discover the beautiful nature of Fuerteventura? Did you know that the nature (geology) of Fuerteventura is very unique, not only for the Canary Islands, but even worldwide? For example, you can see, touch and feel ancient rocks with an age of 20 million years. How cool is that! This makes us and our guests enjoy nature even more, and in fact everything we see along the way. The love for this island is even more intense than it already was and our guests love to come back.
Fuerteventura is the oldest of the Canary Islands, together with Lanzarote, and the second largest and least populated. Partly because of this, it is an oasis of space and tranquillity. It has a beautiful and varied nature. No area on Fuerteventura is the same. The north, east, west, south and the central mountain range with the central plain look completely different. The island:
In the past million years, different types of rocks have been deposited, eroded and sediment deposited on the many lava rocks. This has led to a beautiful palette of colours.
Due to its diverse ecosystem consisting of an alternation of semi-deserts, green oases and a fascinating coastal landscape, Fuerteventura was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2009. Several areas on the island have been designated as natural parks or monuments.
The landscape is sometimes reminiscent of the Sahara, with palm oases and rugged mountain ranges providing variety. We also regularly hear from our guests that Fuerteventura resembles a “little Jordan”.
From our centrally located villa, you’ll have a view of our picturesque large volcanic ‘backyard’. It covers no less than 20 square kilometres and opens out onto the east coast of Fuerteventura. This natural park consists of several volcanoes.
From our villa we have a view on the volcano and natural monument ‘Caldera de Gayria’ (468 m), named after the vultures that live here and hatch their nest with only one egg each year.
You can make beautiful walks in this natural wonder and spot the vultures right from our backdoor :-).
The volcanoes and their eruptions, together with centuries of erosion by strong winds, have shaped the present-day landscape and are also responsible for its beautiful colours. Together with the abundant green vegetation and colourful flowers (when there is enough rain), the sight of our “backyard” is a picture. Add to that the position of the sun with a mix of clouds or just a low sun that casts ghostly shadows on the millions of years old rocky mountains. This turns our ‘backyard’ into a beautiful painting, one we can’t get enough of.
