Racing bike rides
Discover Fuerteventura’s beautiful hilly interior by bike. We have planned several wonderful racing bike rides for you. Get ready for some pretty stunning views of Fuerteventura’s rugged coast and the Atlantic!
Generally, the roads are very smooth and quiet. Fuerteventura’s central and western parts are characterised by peaceful towns and villages. We will make one ride per day, with longer rides of 80 to 100 km being alternated with shorter ones of 40 to 50 km. Altimeters will vary between approx. 500 and 1500 m.
The terrain is hilly. Some climbs stretch over a couple of kilometres. However, steep climbs (> 6%) are rare.

Hills, hills and more hills …
Example day program
- Wake-up session
To make your body awake and supple (again)
- Extensive breakfast buffet
- Short or longer race bike ride or free morning
- Communal lunch in local Spanish restaurant
- Continue cycling tour
- Leisure at Villa Vital
- Dinner together at Villa Vital

Time for delicious lunch of typical Spanish dishes in local restaurant.
Practical information
We will go out cycling as a group. Pascal cycles with the group as a guide.
The rides are not competitive. The idea is to enjoy being active in a beautiful environment. Feel free to accelerate and challenge your fellow cyclists during (longer) climbs though 😉. We will gather at the top.
Halfway through the day we will have a break in one of Fuerteventura’s small villages and enjoy a traditional lunch. How about an eatery at the bottom of a 7 km descent? Mind you, there won’t be any WiFi or signal, so remember to bring cash 🙂!

Beautiful climbs in stunning scenery.
On Fuerteventura, drivers are obliged to leave a distance of at least 1.5 m between their car and any cyclists. You will be pleased to find out that people actually stick to this rule 🙂. Here you can cycle without being pushed off the road, even on main roads!
Please note that average cycling speeds will be as follows:
- 23 – 25 km/ h (mixed groups)
- 20 – 22 km/h (ladies)
This may look ‘slow’, but on Fuerteventura the wind is almost always blowing. Because of this your average speed will be somewhat lower than you are used to. Obviously, we will adjust these speeds if the group wants us to do so.

We cycle on quiet roads as much as possible.
Racing bike
If you are bringing your own bike, make sure it has at least 15 gears.
If you are renting a bicycle through Villa Vital, we will arrange an excellent adjusted-to-size Giant TCR for you. Do bring your own cycling shoes ! Pedals (all types) can be hired.
Cyclists are obliged to wear a helmet in Spain. You can rent these from us, but we recommend to bring your own!

Giant TCR rental bike, or similar.

Video racing bike week January 2020
The video below / next to hear was made by Nely & Jan, two participants to the racing bike week in January 2020. The video gives a nice overview of the entire week, both the rides, the environment, Villa Vital, lunches, etcetera.
What participants say …
“Well I’m not long back from Villa Vital’s Cycle Package Week; Pascal & Sabine are wonderful hosts and the Villa is a relaxing and healthy place to stay. Sabine’s morning stretch yoga session are a perfect way to start the day; then Pascal’s led rides are relaxed (albeit plenty of km’s & m’s of ascent), enjoyable and very scenic. Then back for relaxing by the pool, the honesty bar and then Sabine’s wonderfully healthy cooking. It’s a great place to stay, you’ll back relaxed, fitter, healthier, more flexible and maybe slightly lighter……’Life is good’ 😁 Thank you both for your eel one and kind hospitality, I will be back…..not least for a grudge shuffle board match 😉”
“A week of training in January with temperatures of about 20 degrees! Seven days of cycling with “localo” Pascal as guide who knows how to find all the climbs. Breakfast and dinner at Villa Vital, lunch at nice spots along the way! We will definitely come back here!
Villa Vital is a good place to be!”
