GR131, general information
The GR131 is a long-distance hiking trail that runs across all (major) Canary Islands. The total route is about 560 km long. Starting on Lanzarote (75 km), the GR131 then takes you past Fuerteventura (164 km), Gran Canaria (74 km), Tenerife (101 km), La Gomera (46 km), La Palma (70 km) and El Hierro (40 km).
GR131 Fuerteventura
Since Fuerteventura is the second-largest Canary Island, and the most elongated, the GR131 covers the most kilometres on this island, 164. ‘Officially’ the route on Fuerteventura is divided into 9 stages, but of course anyone is free to combine 2 stages or split a stage. When doing so, you do need to take accommodation into account, as the towns/villages in the interior of Fuerteventura are sometimes far apart.
