Shopping Fuerteventura
If you’re a shopaholic and love nothing more than browsing the quaint little shops, artisan markets or large shopping streets for that one special item or souvenir, you’ll be short of time in Fuerteventura.
Go on a shopping expedition
Every day there is a handicraft market somewhere on the island where you can buy the most unique, often homemade gadgets. Also in the touristic places there are (long) shopping streets with a diverse offer of nice items. And Fuerteventura is known for its Aloe Vera production.
Handicraft markets
If you’re a fan of exclusive homemade jewellery, made from lava stones, other natural stones or banana leaves for example, you’ll do well in Fuerteventura. You’ll find such jewellery especially at the artisan markets, the ‘Mercado Artesenal’, almost nowhere else.
The largest artisans’ market and at the most beautiful location of the island (in the zoo, Oasis Park), you will meet the maker himself and that makes the jewellery extra special. The merchants are always very friendly and sometimes even make customised jewellery on the spot. Besides lots of beautiful jewellery, you can also find leather and wooden products, scarves, unique photographs and paintings. You can also taste local products such as different types of goat cheese and Mojo sauce.
Souvenir shops
There are also a number of (small cute) souvenir shops on the island. You can find them, among others, in the oldest village of Fuerteventura, Betancuria, at a 30 minutes drive from our villa. There you will also find, since recently and on the initiative of the island council, a shop where only local craftsmen are allowed to offer their products for sale.
A larger souvenir shop is located in the tourist resort Caleta de Fuste, a 20-minute drive from our villa. They sell all kinds of beautiful souvenirs, where you will almost certainly succeed.
Shopping streets and malls
Did you know that in Fuerteventura you can also go crazy in the long shopping streets? Both in the north of the island (Corralejo) and in the south (Jandia, which is a bit like ‘Benidorm’ :-)). Both the capital (Puerto del Rosario, Las Rotondas) and Caleta de Fuste (CC Atlantico) have a shopping centre. The former is no less than 3 floors large! Here you will find a diverse range of shops, from well-known fashion chains to less familiar ones. Pick up that sought-after item in the latest fashion or go for a local beauty. The selection is huge, including sportswear, hippy-style clothing, chic clothing and casual clothing. And that for all seasons, because in winter they also sell a winter collection according to the latest fashion!
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera has been grown on Fuerteventura for generations. We love ‘Vidaloe’, a small company just 5 minutes drive / 30 minutes walk from our villa. In their beautiful authentic country house you can get acquainted with the biological production of Aloe Vera and its beneficial properties for your health during a guided tour. Recently, they also started producing Spirulina, a protein that also has very beneficial effects on your body. They sell their high-quality Aloe Vera and Spirulina products at a friendly price in their shop.
If you are staying with us, you can already get a free introduction to their shower, shampoo and body lotion products. And if you buy something in their shop, you get a discount when you show our business card :-). They also have an online shop.
